Retinal Implant on the Horizon
Before you see your doctor, an experienced ophthalmic technician will take a detailed medical history, perform visual screening tests, and administer drops to dilate your pupils. This is needed so that the retina specialist can see into the back of your eye where the retina is located. The dilation process usually requires 20 to 30 minutes and will make it difficult for you to focus. You may wish to arrange to have someone drive you home.
Your doctor will review your medical history with you and examine your eyes with special attention to your retina. Your doctor will explain his or her findings and, if necessary, make recommendations for diagnostic testing. Once a diagnosis is established, your doctor will discuss your treatment options, answer any questions that you may have, and send an extensive report to your referring doctor, including recommendations for future care.
