About 20% of people with HIV develop an infection that can threaten vision. The most common ocular infection for people with HIV is Cytomegalovirus (CMV). CMV may not cause noticeable symptoms, but it can lead to permanent vision loss. People with HIV may also experience dry, red, itchy eyes or difficulty focusing when reading.
